2005 Lincoln Aviator Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the battery cable on 2005 Lincoln Aviator?
A: Service operations on the battery cable require a vehicle in neutral position along with placement on a hoist. Detach the battery power and take off the starter motor solenoid housing. The first step requires unfastening the starter solenoid nut before you set aside the harness while you progress to remove the starter motor solenoid nut although you must re-tighten it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during reinstallation. When installing the cable bracket bolt for the battery you must tighten it to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). The generator B+ nut requires removal while tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) for replacement. The two generator electrical connectors should be disconnected before removing the battery cable ground nut which needs to be positioned aside with a tight torque of 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Open the BJB cover then remove the BJB nut while tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) before disconnection of BJB battery cables. Replace the removed battery cable ground bolt while positioning the harness aside before securing it to a torque of 10 Nm (89 lb-in). End the procedure by detaching the electrical connector from near the battery tray followed by releasing the battery cable locators from the battery tray. The completion of service requires performing the opposite steps used for removal.
