2005 Lincoln Aviator Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the upper intake manifold on 2005 Lincoln Aviator?
A: Service of the upper intake manifold starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable. Always handle the pressure relief cap with caution outside engine operating time because executing this action with an active engine will result in damage and safety risks. Approach the pressure relief cap after the engine has cooled down; then use a thick cloth to cover the cap while turning it gradually and move away from the cap during this operation. The recovery process of coolant requires proper containment in a clean container for later reuse and when contaminated proper recycling or disposal techniques should be followed. The cooling system requires either Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant VC-7-A (VC-7-13 in California and Oregon, VC-7-C in Canada) or an equivalent product that follows Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1 and requires different coolant types to be avoided. The next step involves removing air cleaner outlet pipe followed by disconnecting the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module before disconnecting the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose alongside the brake booster vacuum hose along with evaporative emissions (EVAP) hose and vacuum harness connector and intake manifold coolant hoses that need plugging. Use the following steps to remove the throttle body linkage components: disconnect the accelerator cable as well as the speed control cable followed by removal of the accelerator cable return spring then uninstall the two bolts to allow position of the accelerator cable and bracket before disconnecting the accelerator cable pin-type retainer. The technicians must detach the electrical connections of the idle air control (IAC) along with the throttle position (TP) sensor. The service requires removal of the two fuel rail shield nuts followed by shield removal before reinstalling them tightly to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). During installation you should tighten the radio capacitor nut and the radio capacitor to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The upper intake manifold bolts and studs need removal starting with locations 3, 5 and 9 which use studs while you should remove the upper intake manifold followed by cleaning the gasket and deciding for a replacement if required. The service completion requires execution of the installation steps in reverse order.
