2005 Mercury Mariner Windshield Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to reseal a windshield on 2005 Mercury Mariner?
A: The first step for windshield resealing involves removing 4 covers together with 4 bolts and 2 A-pillar passenger assist handles before removing 2 windshield side garnish mouldings. Remove the 2 screws from the front overhead console door through its portal so the overhead console can be taken out while disconnecting the electrical connector if present. Using suitable material support the front section of the headliner after removing its 6 screws and 2 sun visors and 2 clips. Clean the inner and outer surfaces of the windshield glass with a glass cleaner made without alcohol by removing the cowl panel grille. The specified application of urethane adhesive requires using a high-ratio electric or battery-operated caulk gun with an appropriately cut adhesive tip for creation of a continuous smooth adhesive bead across all gaps. Squeeze urethane adhesive onto the existing adhesive on the windshield top and sides inside the vehicle while spreading it along the bottom outside the vehicle. Urethane adhesive curing time must last for at least one hour before leak inspections take place. Additional adhesive can be used if required. Reinstall and secure the cowl panel grille by applying it first followed by the front part of the headliner and complete the installation with 2 sun visors and 2 clips and 6 screws. Fasten the overhead console back into position through its 2 screws and you can also reconnect the electrical connector if you require it. The final step involves putting in the two windshield side garnish mouldings then adding and properly fastening the two A-pillar passenger assist handles with their 4 bolts and respective covers by tightening them to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
