How to service and repair the starter motor on 2005 Mercury Mountaineer?

To service the starter motor the vehicle must be in neutral and on a hoist. Detach the battery ground, lift off solenoid cover and disconnect B-terminal cable and S-terminal cable. Take out the starter and replace with given torque. This should be done to keep the safety of the protective caps in case protection is required.
