2005 Mercury Sable Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Engine Front Timing Cover on 2005 Mercury Sable?
A: Service and repair procedures for the engine front cover need to begin with draining engine coolant followed by disconnecting the battery ground cablerief. The first step is to remove the nuts which hold the engine anti-roll strut brace then proceed to take out the engine anti-roll strut by extracting its bolts. The next step requires removing the coolant expansion tank followed by a slow release of the four bolts that secure the water pump pulley. The service requires removing the crankshaft damper and disconnecting the lower radiator hose through hose clamp relocation and hose detachment. Unscrew and detach the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor while removing its bolts. Lower the vehicle after taking the oil pan out. You should first disconnect the generator then unfasten and remove the generator support bracket nut and bolt sequence before taking out the generator and stud bolt. Remove the A/C compressor bracket by unfastening the nut and bolt after precisely removing its tensioner with accessory drive belt idler pulley bolts. Detach the heater hose by shifting the clamp aside along with removing the hose connection. You must start by removing the water pump pulley by taking off the bolts and continuing by removing the engine front cover and water pump as an assembly by taking away all bolts and the front cover itself. Discard the front cover gasket. The installation process starts with cleaning all sealing surfaces before putting on a new front cover gasket for installing the engine front cover and water pump assembly while applying Pipe Sealant with Teflon® to the specified bolts before screwing them in. The first step in installation involves setting the water pump pulley then joining the heater hose to its clamp followed by installing the A/C compressor bracket before using the accessory drive belt tensioner and idler pulley. Secure the generator support bracket with the bolt and follow with the generator and its stud bolt before generator wire connection. Position the CKP sensor after hoisting the vehicle so you can install its bolts and connector after correct sensor placement. Follow by connecting the lower radiator hose but resetting the clamp before adding the oil pan along with crankshaft damper and coolant expansion tank and engine anti-roll strut together with the anti-roll strut brace. Finish the process by attaching the battery and complete a cool system fill-up and bleeding procedure.
