2006 Ford E-250 Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Transmission Pan of a Torqshift Automatic Transmission on 2006 Ford E-250?
A: The fluid pan repair of a Torqshift automatic transmission begins with hoisting the vehicle to neutral gear. Begin by removing the transmission fluid drain plug to drain the fluid and proceed to remove the pan together with its gasket before tightening the bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling. You should take necessary precautions to carefully extract the filter seal from the transmission fluid filter to prevent damaging the seal bore which may cause transmission failure. Check the seal bore while examining the area then extract it if a seal exists. Make sure to discard the previous seal before setting up the new fluid filter with seal assembly. The bolts on the fluid pan should be tightened following a crisscross pattern to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) then install the transmission fluid drain plug by tightening it to the same torque value. Before installing the transmission fluid ensure that only the specified fluid is used otherwise operational problems or failure could occur. The transmission needs 7.0 liters (7.5 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid poured through its fluid filler tube. Agent the engine and operate the transmission range selector lever across all gear ranges to verify correct gear engagement. The transmission fluid level must be checked at a normal operating temperature between 150 - 170°F (66 - 77°C) when the vehicle is in neutral. Add 0.24 liter (0.5 pint) of fluid in small amounts to reach the correct level which should remain in the cross-hatched area under the fluid level indicator.
