2006 Ford Explorer Ignition Switch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the ignition switch on 2006 Ford Explorer?
A: The first step to serve or fix the ignition switch requires you to disconnect the battery ground cable. Proceed by removing first the two screws that keep the steering column opening cover then the three screws which anchor the upper and lower steering column shrouds. Unplug the ignition switch electrical connector and then unlock the two tabs to take out the ignition switch. The replacement of the new ignition switch must be done in reverse order but keep both the ignition lock cylinder and the switch separate to protect the column from damage.
