2006 Ford Explorer Seat Motor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the power-fold seat motor in the third row on 2006 Ford Explorer?
A: Service of the power-fold seat motor in the third row starts with placing the working backrest adjacent to the unpowered backrest. Take off the third row seat from the vehicle until you reach a point where you can remove the two latch-to-floor mounting bracket nuts. When reinstalling these brackets tighten them to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft). In order to detach the right-hand 50 percent seat from the floor mounting bracket remove the two cushion pivot link assembly-to-cushion frame nuts found under the right-hand seat and detach the seat properly tightening the nuts to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft) torque. After removing the latch-to-cushion frame bolt install it with 25 Nm torque then tighten it to 18 lb-ft (18 lb-ft). Detach the latch cover using two bolts and remove it before releasing the backrest trim cover lower J-clip that sits on the service side of the motor. The process of removing the seat back trim cover from the hook and loop strip must be executed carefully to prevent damage to the backrest foam pad. The backrest trim cover requires releasing J-clips and hook and loop strips at side J to expose the two latch-to-backrest frame bolts that face the motor. Proceed to take out the motor together with the latch after removing those bolts while torquing bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) during reinstallation. The safety belt buckle assembly needs its nut removed while separating from the latch before reconstructing by tightening to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft). Reinstallation of the process ends through the reverse application procedure for either motor.
