2006 Ford Explorer Trailing Arm Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the trailing arm on 2006 Ford Explorer?
A: Service the trailing arm by taking out first the toe link followed by the parking brake cable bracket bolt and prepare to tighten it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs) when putting it back in. Discard the trailing arm bolt while properly torquing the new bolt installation at curb height to reach 300 Nm (222 ft. lbs.). First remove and throw out the discarding bolts of the wheel knuckle and trailing arm procedure. During reinstallation the wheel knuckle bolts need to be tightened to 275 Nm which is equal to 203 ft. lbs. Reverse the installation by reassembling the components while maintaining the correct direction of all suspension fasteners and following specified torque specifications.
