2006 Mercury Mountaineer Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Transmission Pan of a 6R60 automatic transmission on 2006 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: Service and repair operations for the 6R60 automatic transmission fluid pan must start with a vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. The fluid fill pluginstrument situated on the transmission case's passenger front must be unsealed to purge system vacuum which will ease fluid pan removal. After removing the transmission fluid pan users should drain all fluid before eliminating both the fluid pan gasket and transmission filter from service. Check and clean the transmission fluid pan while examining the magnet inside it. Transmission fluid filter replacement should not use reuse the filter unless the repair process shows restricted contamination. To examine the transmission case you must first check whether it contains a fluid filter seal then carefully perform its removal while protecting the case surface from scratches. Before placing the new transmission fluid filter in position the user should apply automatic transmission fluid of good quality to cover the seal. Place the magnet into the fluid pan while you can keep the gasket if it has no damage but replace it with a new transmission fluid pan gasket if required. Complete the process by installing the fluid pan before tightening its bolts in a crisscross pattern to 14 Nm torque specification (10 ft. lbs.). Finish by performing the fluid refill procedure.
