2007 Lincoln Mark LT Muffler Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the muffler and tailpipe on 2007 Lincoln Mark LT?
A: The first step to repair the muffler and tailpipe requires your vehicle to be set to neutral at a hoist. The use of oil or grease-based lubricants on isolators should be avoided because they deteriorate rubber material. Always install new exhaust intermediate pipe and clamp assembly during the process of unfastening the exhaust intermediate pipe-to-muffler assembly clamp. Start by easing the clamp then remove the bolt securing the front part of the muffler exhaust hanger bracket and its associated isolator from the frame. This action should be followed by removing the bolts from the rear muffler exhaust hanger bracket and isolator and then the bolts from the tailpipe exhaust hanger bracket and its isolator. Remove all components before extracting the combination of muffler and tailpipe unit. Start with the vehicle front end before tightening any fasteners during the installation process of all assembled components. Cleaning the exhaust clamp contact area demands an abrasive pad to eliminate rust buildup on surfaces. Fitting begins with placing the muffler and tailpipe assembly before installing the front muffler exhaust hanger bracket with its isolator to the frame and tightens it to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Move onto the rear muffler exhaust hanger bracket along with its isolator before you tighten both to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) and then proceed with the tailpipe exhaust hanger bracket and its isolator which needs to be tightened to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Reshape the exhaust system before tightening all exhaust system clamps. The bolt of the idler pulley should be extracted before final installation where it requires a torque of 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Reinstall by doing the removal steps in reverse order.
