2007 Lincoln MKX Shift Knob Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Shift Knob on 2007 Lincoln MKX?
A: Service and repair operations on the shift knob of the MKX begin with using an appropriate tool to remove both the shift knob trim ring along with the shift knob trim covers. The tool should be used to lift the armrest and then remove the center console trim cover. Start by disconnecting the transmission control (TC) switch electrical connector and proceed to gently remove shift knob trim covers from their bottom front corners before the top front corner. Check the knob body for damage before conducting a replacement if needed. You must remove the two shift knob screws prior to taking off the shift knob while routing the TC switch electrical connector harness through the shift knob. Install the TC switch electrical connector harness through the shift knob before putting on the shift knob followed by two screws that must be loosely fitted prior to tightening them to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs). Reinstall the shift knob bezel on the shift knob before you install new shift knob trim covers. Reposition and connect the TC switch electrical connector before placing on the center console trim cover. Installation of the shift knob trim ring constitutes the last step for MKX models.
