2007 Lincoln Town Car Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the engine front timing cover on 2007 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Service and repair of the engine front cover begins when you position the vehicle on a hoist operating in NEUTRAL position. Drain fuel pressure from the system then remove the battery negative wire. detach both valve covers and the coolant pump and the crankshaft front seal from the engine. The procedure requires you to detach the power steering pump by taking out its four securing bolts before placing it to the side. The service begins with draining engine oil using the oil pan drain plug before removing the four bolts that secure the front pan to engine front cover. The shield bolts need removal before performing tasks on the bolt and belt idler pulley on limousines. Remove the bolts and stud bolts according to sequence directions to separate the engine front cover from its dowel. A metal surface cleaner with a plastic scraping tool must be used to clean the sealing surface carefully while avoiding tools that might damage it. The installation of the engine front cover requires immediate fastening into place within four minutes or else clean the sealing area before allowing dry time. Sealant must be applied between the cylinder head and block surface alongside the oil pan and block area before tightening the engine front cover at its dowels and installing the bolts loosely. Begin installation of front cover fasteners by tightening them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) while following the designated sequence before torquing the idler pulley bolt to this same amount. The shield and bolts need installation on limousines and you should tighten them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Secure the four front oil pan bolts loosely before torquing them in two steps reaching 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) initially and achieving another 60 degrees of tension. Screw on the oil pan drain plug while applying 13 Nm (10 ft. lbs.) torque before positioning the power steering pump and securing it with four bolts that need a torque of 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The next step is to install a brand-new crankshaft front oil seal before adding the coolant pump and valve covers. The last step involves reinstallation of the battery ground cable followed by engine oil filling with clean fluid.
