2008 Ford Edge A/C Condenser Parts Q&A

  • Q: How should the A/C condenser be installed and what precautions should be taken on 2008 Ford Edge?
A: A/C condensers for this vehicle contain an original receiver/drier desiccant bag installed by the factory but the bag risks moisture contamination if the condenser remains unused for an extended time. The original desiccant bag inside the A/C condenser must be completely removed during service because technicians should use the standalone receiver/drier desiccant bag provided in the product kit. The product requires official O-ring seals which cannot be replaced by those from other Ford vehicles. Start by recovering the refrigerant before placing the vehicle at neutral while hoisting it up. First drain engine coolant and then perform steps of removing front bumper cover followed by cooling fan removal. Start by detaching the upper radiator hose through its clamp at the radiator and remove the two clips holding the radiator brackets to finally position the radiator toward the back of the vehicle. Disconnect the condenser lines from the radiator clips and then remove outlet and inlet fitting bolts followed by detaching the fittings which requires disposal of the O-ring seals. Reinstallation requires the fittings to be tightened to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) before removing the two condenser bolts while extracting the condenser core above the vehicle. Installation requires new O-ring seals to be lubricated by clean PAG oil before application for reverse following the removal steps to complete the system lubrication with required clean PAG oil amounts. The final steps require you to fill the engine cooling system followed by evacuation and leak testing before charging the refrigeration system.
