2008 Mercury Mariner Washer Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the windshield washer reservoir on 2008 Mercury Mariner?
A: The windshield washer reservoir requires service and repair with a vehicle on a hoist set to NEUTRAL position. Disconnect the electrical connector for the washer pump after removing the right-hand front splash shield. Read all caution information on the product label carefully and consult medical services regarding emergency procedures because improper following of this data can trigger severe personal harm. Hand tools must not be used in order to protect the connector during washer pump hose removal or installation. The windshield washer reservoir needs draining before you can disconnect the washer pump hoses by rotating the lock ring gently with a 90 degree angle until the hose becomes easy to remove. Position the lock rings properly for reinstallation but avoid leaving them loose because improper installation can create weaken the ring and produce leaks. Use a clockwise rotation to set the lock ring properly before you take out the two reservoir bolt and the container itself. Tighten the bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) when installing them back. Operating the washer pump without windshield washer fluid in the reservoir will result in premature pump failure. The reverse order of the removal process should be used to finish the installation.
