2008 Mercury Mountaineer Engine Control Module Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and replace the Engine Control Module (PCM) for all on 2008 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: The PCM removal process for all vehicles does not demand new keys when replacing the Engine Control Module. Start the procedure by obtaining the module configuration following the instructions of the Programmable Module Installation procedure. The air cleaner must be removed before beginning the work on vehicles that have a 4.6L (3V) engine. The procedure starts by disconnecting the RH front wheel speed sensor electrical connector followed by removing nut(s) until the A/C tube bracket(s) and wiring harness can be set aside. The installation begins with disconnecting the PCM connectors before removing the bolts that secure the PCM. Position the PCM along with its bolts then secure them at 10 Nm torque (89 lb-in). Connect the electrical connectors of PCM and then reposition the wiring harness with A/C tube bracket(s) before securing nut(s) tightly to 7 Nm (62 lb-in) while ensuring the RH front wheel speed sensor electrical connector remains connected. Install the air cleaner on vehicles running with a 4.6L (3V) engine. The last stage includes getting the module back to its original state through the Programmable Module Installation procedure while also conducting a PATS reprogram by performing the Parameter Reset procedure.
