2008 Mercury Sable Coolant Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir on 2008 Mercury Sable?
A: It is essential to wait until the engine cools before opening the cooling system because the reservoir works under pressure releasing steam and hot liquid with force that leads to potential serious injuries. Start by dismantling the cooling system pressure through gradual counterclockwise rotation of the pressure relief cap to half its rotation before removing the cap. A suitable suction device along with hose clamp pliers allows you to sap coolant from the lower degas bottle hose through its hose clamp connection. First detach the hoses from both degas bottle fittings then remove its pin-type retainer before separating the degas bottle from the power steering reservoir. Unfasten the two bolts securing the degas bottle before withdrawing the bottle from its place. In the installation process follow the reverse removal steps while securing bolts at 9 Nm (80 lb-in) and complete the degas bottle with coolant.
