2009 Ford Edge Wheel Seal Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the RH Wheel Seal on the 6F50 transaxle on 2009 Ford Edge?
A: The service process for the RH halfshaft seal of the 6F50 transaxle requires the vehicle to be in neutral gear position with usage of a hoist. Start the procedure by first removing the front wheel and tire from the RH side and then take off the RH halfshaft. Perform a wear and damage inspection of the halfshaft hub before deciding whether to replace it. Examine surfaces of the differential seal and the bushing and side gear splines of the differential. Use an appropriate awl to make a small hole in the halfshaft seal afterward remove it by using a dent puller. The installation of the RH halfshaft seal requires a new halfshaft seal that should be installed with the Cover Axle Seal Installer and Handle. Reposition the RH halfshaft inside the differential before reinstalling it towards the RH wheel with its tire attached. End the process by filling the transaxle with clean automatic transmission fluid following the correct fluid levels yet using separate Mercon(R) V for early build vehicles and Mercon(R) LV for later models and never mixing these fluids because it may lead to transmission failure or erratic shifting.
