2009 Ford Expedition Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2009 Ford Expedition?
A: Starting alternator servicing procedures requires the battery disconnection. According to the Navigator model specifications you must release the two retainers and remove the engine cover. After disconnecting the Air Cleaner (ACL) intake pipe one should proceed with the subsequent steps. Turn the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt tensioner to the counterclockwise direction while setting the accessory drive belt to the side. Take out the four bolts holding the generator bracket while tightening them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). After that, remove the harness locator from the generator bracket. Secure the position of generator aside by tightening its two bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). First disconnect the generator electrical connector before moving the generator B+ protective cover aside and discarding the retaining nut while setting the B+ generator terminal aside. The replacement B+ terminal nut requires tightness at 17 Nm torque (150 lb-in torque). Installation of the generator occurs by following the reverse order of removal steps.
