2009 Ford Flex Seat Motor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the front Seat Motor recliner on 2009 Ford Flex?
A: The first step to handle front seat recliner motor maintenance is to disassemble the front seat while avoiding probing connectors linked to the air bag and safety system because this could trigger an unintentional air bag release. When the seat track rear height adjust reaches its maximum position the recliner cover post will become accessible to remove. Unwrapping the recliner cover requires you to pull out the scrivet and screw situated at the rear and withdraw the recliner cover post from the seat track hole. You must remove the scrivet and screws at both front and rear positions on the cushion side shield before pulling it out to release its clips. To access the first row of hog rings the backrest trim cover needs to be inverted while you also disconnect the backrest heater mat electrical connector and separate the pin-type retainer. Acces the power lumbar assembly by removing the backrest foam pad. After disconnecting the power lumbar electrical connector and taking off all retaining clips you can remove the assembly. Use a screwdriver to remove the clip on the recliner shaft together with the recline motor bolt before easing the clips and pushing the sleeve toward the recliner shaft to take out the power recline motor. The process of installation requires users to connect the motor electrical connector and slide the long recliner shaft between motor and recliner before securing everything with the sleeve and short recliner shaft. The recline motor bolt requires a torque of 5 Nm before attaching the clip onto the recliner shaft. To reinstall the power lumbar position the backrest foam pad first and then connect the electrical connector before engaging the retaining clips. The wire harnesses must be correctly routed while the hog rings secure the backrest trim cover along with the lower J-clips. Secure the cushion side shield after alignment by clamping the clips and screws before replacing the recliner cover and front seat.
