2009 Ford Mustang Harmonic Balancer Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: The vehicle must be raised onto a hoist placed in neutral position for servicing or repairing harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. It is necessary to remove the air cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe followed by the accessory drive belt. Because the crankshaft pulley bolt operates at torque-to-yield strength do not reuse it. Utilize a strap wrench to keep the crankshaft pulley steady when removing the bolt along with its washer. The crankshaft vibration damper remover will fail to remove the pulley if it starts from an uninitialized pulley bolt position. Thus the bolt should be installed 2 to 3 turns at the start. The crankshaft vibration damper removers with two 8-mm bolts serve to detach the crankshaft pulley before discarding the crankshaft pulley bolt. The crankshaft vibration damper installer tool should be used for fitting the new crankshaft pulley. Apply the strap wrench to hold the crankshaft pulley during new crankshaft pulley bolt placement before tightening until it reaches 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) torque followed by an 85-degree addition. Reinstall both the accessory drive belt along with the ACL outlet pipe after completion.
