2009 Ford Taurus Fuel Filler Hose Parts Q&A

  • Q: How Should One Safely Service the Fuel Filler Hose on 2009 Ford Taurus?
A: Service the fuel tank filler pipe area while taking safety precautions which include no smoking and an absence of open flames and personal electronic gadgets due to high flammability of fuel mixtures. None of the EVAP system or fuel elements should be worked on before first disconnecting the battery ground cable. Position the vehicle on a hoist at neutral and break the connection of the battery ground cable. Follow the counterclockwise direction with the fuel tank filler cap until it fully disengages before placing it aside. The excess fuel quantity in the tank will decrease by one eighth of its total content. The fuel draining hose must extend through the fuel tank filler pipe until it reaches the fuel tank spout for draining purposes. The fuel storage tanker should be connected to the hose to drain fuel until the level reaches below the tank inlet spout. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe hose to 3 Nm (27 lb-in) after installation while detaching it from the fuel tank with the clamp released. Disconnect the EVAP canister fresh air hose from its mating point on the fuel tank filler pipe and the fuel vapor tube assembly from its place on the recirculation tube. The first step involves removing the fuel tank filler pipe bracket bolt while torquing it to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) before installing it. The procedure continues with unscrewing two retaining screws that require a final torque of 3 Nm (27 lb-in) during reinstallation. Initiate by removing the RH rear wheel and tire and then proceed to remove its three screws along with two rivets and a RH rear fender splash shield. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe fresh air hose from the fuel fill door housing fitting before removal of the fuel tank filler pipe. The service completion requires performing the opposite sequence of removal.
