2009 Lincoln MKS Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace Rear Suspension Coil Springs on 2009 Lincoln MKS?
A: Begin the procedure by determining the fender lip to wheel hub center distance before the vehicle stands at calm level ground. When removing the wheel and tire secure the stabilizer bar link studs by using the hex-holding feature while you remove and discard both upper nuts. The stabilizer bar should be set aside while keeping the lower arm stable with a suitable jackstand. Start by gently disconnecting the bolt which holds the lower arm to subframe before disposing of the lower arm-to-wheel knuckle bolt. Drop the jackstand while you remove the spring but maintain the lower spring seat in the correct position within the lower arm. The inspection of both the upper spring seat and the lower spring seat requires replacement if damages are detected. To install the component position the rear suspension on a jackstand until the fender lip measurement matches the initial distance from the hub center. After installing the spring place the jackstand beneath the lower arm before applying the new lower arm-to-wheel knuckle bolt in a loosely threaded condition. Reposition the stabilizer bar links after immobilizing them with hex-holding then fasten two new upper nuts by applying torque to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). Adjust the suspension order to its measured curb height and connect the lower arm-to-wheel knuckle bolt at 265 Nm (196 lb-ft) while torquing the lower arm-to-subframe bolt at 215 Nm (159 lb-ft). Place the wheel as the final step of the suspension repair.
