First remove the upper ball joint nut and then discard it before taking off the shock absorber lower nut and bolt. A Ball Joint Separator should be employed for disconnecting the wheel knuckle's upper arm ball joint before you can remove the shock absorber and spring combination. For unserviced shock absorber parts use a suitable spring compressor tool to release tension from the shock absorber spring.
