2009 Mercury Grand Marquis A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install a new A/C condenser and ensuring it is not related to a transmission fluid leak on 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: The condenser core provides dual cooling functionality since its bottom rows operate as an Oil-To-Air (OTA) transmission cooler unit. As part of condenser replacement for a refrigerant leak diagnosed by fluorescent dye it is crucial to eliminate transmission fluid as a source of the detected leak. Start by recovering the refrigerant followed by depowering the fire suppression system before instances of serious personal injury can occur. Put a hoist in NEUTRAL while eliminating the radiator upper sight shield and pin-type retainers together with four lower side air deflector pin-type retainers and the bottom cooling module air deflector. Begin by disconnecting the two transmission cooler line fittings at the condenser then remove the two condenser fitting nuts which results in disconnection of the fittings from the condenser. Discard the O-ring seals and gasket seals during this process. When reassembling these components tighten all fittings to 15 Nm (133 lb-in). Start by taking out the four upper side air deflector pin-type retainers followed by removing the two cooling module bracket bolts which should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) for reinstallation. Disassemble the condenser bolt then disconnect the power steering cooler by removing it from the cooling module clips. Align the cooling module back before removing the condenser core from its place. A vehicle with fire suppression running after removal requires to be activated before continuing with maintenance work. The new condenser core installation process requires the same backward steps of removal with new O-ring and gasket seals and proper application of clean PAG oil for refrigerant system lubrication. The process ends with an evacuation step followed by leak testing before charging the refrigeration system and achieving the proper transmission fluid measurement.
