2009 Mercury Mountaineer Oxygen Sensors Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Heated Oxygen Sensors on 2009 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: Place the vehicle on a hoist and set neutral before beginning service of the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). The RH HO2S requires removal of two bolts before setting the heat shield to the side. First disconnect the HO2S electrical connector then apply penetrating and lock lubricant on the connector when needed to aid removal. You must use the exhaust gas oxygen sensor socket to uninstall the oxygen sensor known as HO2S. Before installation you must apply nickel anti-seize lubricant lightly to the threads of the new HO2S before tightening it to 41 Nm (30 lb-ft) using the original socket. Reinstall the HO2S electrical connector afterward before placing the heat shield if needed and fastening it with its 2 bolts at 20 Nm (177 lb-in) torque.
