Ford E-250 Accelerator Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the accelerator cable on Ford E-250?
A: The first step for accelerator cable maintenance requires you to secure the accelerator pedal position before disconnecting it from both the pedal and shaft. The next step involves an inside-the-vehicle action where you should compress retaining cable tabs on its end to extract the cable from its bulkhead position. Finish by extracting the engine air cleaner (ACL) alongside outlet tube followed by depressing the tab to take off the accelerator control splash shield. Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body cam when completing this task. Engine versions with 4.6L require separation of the cable from the clip but both 5.4L and 6.8L engines require disconnection from the clip. Compression of the retaining tabs on the accelerator cable should be performed before pulling it free from the bracket. The installation of the new cable includes the opposite steps used for removal.
