Ford F-350 Super Duty Leaf Spring Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the leaf spring on Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: Repair work and service on the leaf spring of Super Duty F-250, F-350 and Excursion models starts with vehicle lift and wheel support followed by wheel and tire removal. A suitable jack should support the rear axle before you remove the U-bolt retaining nuts and U-bolts from their positions. Operate by removing first the rear spring upper plate and then successively the nut and bolt from the rear spring front hanger bracket. After detaching the tower nut and bolt on the rear spring shackle bucket, you can remove the rear spring assembly. If the vehicle has F-Super Duty model, start by taking away the auxiliary spring along with its spacer and proceed to remove the nut and bolt from the rear spring shackle assembly to remove the rear spring shackle. To detach the rear spring shackle for Excursion vehicles use the same procedure of removing the rear spring shackle assembly nut and bolt. The reassembly must begin with components reverse from removal order and use new fasteners exclusively while keeping all suspension fasteners to original part numbers for prevention of costly service expenses. Correct retention of critical parts requires following the specified torque values when reassembling these components.
