Ford F-350 Super Duty Rear Crossmember Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Rear Crossmember and Front Cross-Member for transmission support on Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: A hoisted vehicle in NEUTRAL position is required to start servicing or repairing the transmission support crossmember. Using a heavy-duty transmission jack, support the transmission but keep the fluid pan away from bearing weight. Lock the transmission with a securing strap running over the top of the jack and spread between both sides to avoid damage. Remove the three wire harness retainers during the replacement process where transmission support insulator studs should be discarded and new ones installed. Take off the transmission insulator nuts before removing the nuts and bolt plate from the left-hand transmission support crossmember while discarding the nuts. User should repeat the same process for the right-hand transmission support crossmember and gusset. New transmission support insulator studs should be installed whenever needed before tightening them to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft). Fasten the transmission support crossmember in position before adding left-hand bolt plate with new nuts followed by right-hand crossmember and gusset attachment using new nuts. Begin by installing transmission insulator nuts loosely and finishing with a torque of 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) on the transmission support crossmember-to-frame contact points before jacking up the transmission. Put the transmission insulator nuts under 115 Nm (85 lb-ft) torque before replacing the three wiring harness retainers.
