A floor console removal is needed as the first step when handling automatic transmission shift levers replacement. First set the shift lever to PARK position before unclipping the shift lever cable and then removing its outer sleeve. First disconnect the shift lever assembly electrical connector and then uninstall the four nuts to remove the assembly. Thread sealant should be applied to the nuts before tightening them to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). Connect the electrical connector to its position before checking that both
Shift Cable locking tabs lock securely and the cable end fits correctly onto the ball stud. Push the shift cable into the bracket until it makes a clicking noise and verify that it stays locked by pulling on the cable. Install the shift cable to the shift lever by putting the transmission in PARK position then adding the outer sleeve followed by the shift lever cable. After installing the floor console you should adjust the shift lever cable if necessary.
