How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shift Knob on Ford Mustang?

A service or repair of the automatic transmission shifter starts with removing the transmission selector lever assembly. The shift knob moves rearward before you remove the screw from its base section to slide the knob off the shaft. Cut the electrical connection of the transmission control switch. Begin installation by connecting the transmission control switch wiring to its electrical connector and guide the wire into the selector shaft channel to stop harness extension into the sliding mechanics. Tightening the screw to more than 3 Nm (27 inch lbs) will lead to the destruction of the selector lever assembly. Insert the screw hole of the shift knob base with the selector shaft so you can install the screw while maintaining 3 Nm (27 inch lbs) of force. Place the transmission selector lever assembly back into the vehicle as the last step.
