Ford Taurus X Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on Ford Taurus X?
A: Begin servicing and repairing the vacuum brake booster by taking out the Brake Master Cylinder and detaching the brake booster vacuum fitting before setting it to the side. The first step requires operators to remove the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch while keeping the brake pedal at rest point with the plungers compressed to enable bracket rotation; trying this operation with extended plungers can damage the switches. The operator should take out the speed control deactivation switch if it is present. Proceed with removing the booster rod combined with its washer from the brake pedal. Remove the four nuts before clearing the brake booster and install it according to manufacturer instructions with a final torque value of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Install the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch after attaching the booster push rod to the brake pedal when it remains at-rest to prevent incorrect adjustment which could lead to potential damage. Following the removal steps you should reverse the process during reinstallation.
