The process for servicing and repairing the turn signal switch demands the removal of the battery ground cable. To start service and repair of the turn signal switch insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the RUN position. You can use a punch through the access hole in the steering column to push the release tab and simultaneously pull out the ignition switch lock cylinder. The first step in servicing the turn signal switch involves removing the tilt wheel handle and shank before taking out all screws and the LH instrument panel insulator. The upper and lower steering column shrouds need removal after disconnecting the screws which allows access to the shrouds. After removing the steering wheel to enhance visibility you should remove the multi-function switch through unfastening its two screws before disconnecting electrical connections to remove it completely. The installation process must be completed as the opposite of removal steps. After reconnecting or disconnecting the battery the vehicle needs to learn its adaptation strategy resulting in unusual driving behavior that might require traveling a minimum distance of 16 km (10 mi) for complete adaptation.
