    Q: How to service the seat heater and replace the seat cushion thermo-electric device (TED) on Lincoln MKS?
    A:
    A one-minute wait after turning off the ignition will deplete the back up power before servicing the seat heater and replacing the seat cushion thermo-electric device (TED). To service the passenger seat you must separate the carpet flap toe-kick while removing the J-clip attached to the cushion frame. First peel the carpet flap toe-kick while removing pin-type retainers using a finger-tool from the cushion side shield and recliner cover. Both the driver seat must be oriented at the frontmost position with a downward tilt while the passenger seat has its position set forward with an elevated tilt. To remove both safety belts, start by peeling off the driver cushion side shield cover then disconnect the anchor bolt of the driver seat and cut off the Belt Tension Sensor electrical connector from the passenger seat prior to bolt removal. First remove the scrivet and screw from the cushion side shield before using pull-out action to release all clips. Disassemble the wires connecting the seat control switch by removing its electrical connectors while also separating the wire harness pin-type retainer. The front and outboard side J-clip retainers must be detached after releasing the cushion trim cover from the back of the outboard recliner to allow cushion foam pad and cover rise up. The removal process requires disconnecting the electrical connector and removing the screw to free the TED from the cushion support wires while separating its bracket. You can install the TED by attaching its bracket to cushion support wires next placing the TED correctly and screwing in the hardware then reconnecting the electrical connector. Reattach the cushion trim cover to the recliner before installing the cushion side shield by restoring all retaining clips and connecting the electrical connectors of the seat control switch while ensuring proper clip alignment then securing it with the screw and scrivet. Reinstall the safety belt anchor bolt after positioning the seats to their original location while tightening it to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). Then connect the electrical connector for the passenger seat BTS. The installation sequence should now include attaching the cushion side shield cover then attaching the carpet flap toe-kick through proper fastening of the J-clip followed by installation of the pin-type retainers. When servicing the passenger seat complete the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Reset process.
