Mercury Mariner Fuel Filler Hose Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What safety precautions should be taken when servicing the fuel filler hose on Mercury Mariner?
A: Service the fuel filler hose safely by never using fire or lighted tobacco items or smoke around fuel components since these systems contain flammable mixtures that could ignite and lead to severe injuries. People must maintain their personal electronic devices in a different area while this process takes place. The process requires following safety procedures for fuel handling while staying alert for possible spills that might happen due to hot materials on the vehicle. Start all operations by detaching the battery ground wire to avoid potential ignition scenarios. Secure the car in NEUTRAL position on the hoist before removing the battery cable from its ground. The fuel tank filler pipe recirculation tube should be detached from the fuel pump module quick connect coupling after releasing the fuel pump module access cover. The installation procedure requires tightening the two filler pipe flange screws to 3 Nm (27 lb in) while reinstalling them. Start by taking off the left rear wheel together with the tire before unbolting the fuel tank filler pipe bracket bolt and tightening it to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) when reinstalling it. Caution is required because there will be some fuel remaining inside the filler pipe but you can drain it safely into an appropriate container. You should loosen the clamp to detach the fuel tank filler pipe hose from the fuel tank before retightening it to 4 Nm (35 lb-in) torque. The end of the process involves taking away the fuel tank filler pipe assembly before reinstalling the parts in the opposite order.
