How to Service the EGR Valve on Mercury Milan?

The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve requires servicing by starting with vehicle hoisting in NEUTRAL position and disconnection of the ground cable from the battery. The cooling system needs draining before removing the air cleaner inlet pipe. The EGR valve electrical connector needs disconnection before the clamp releases to extract the upper radiator tube at the coolant outlet. After freeing the clamp you should take the coolant hose off from the EGR valve. The EGR valve requires removal of its two bolts then discarding the gasket material. Firmly torque the new valve to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when installing. Excessive force and abrasive tools should never be used for cleaning sealing surfaces since they create leaks by generating scratches and gouges; a plastic scraper must be used instead to eliminate old gasket traces. Workers should clean the surfaces with metal surface prep in cases where gasket residue has not been detected. The mating surface cleaning operations should end with the cooling system fill-up and bleeding process.
