The Differential Cover is an important part that has a well-earned reputation for its dependability and effectiveness, which is critical for protecting the differential's health across the different Sable generations. In preventing lubricant leaks the Differential Cover shields other parts inside from contamination hence allowing the ring-and-pinion gear to run smoothly. Both of these aspects improve the performance of the Mercury Sable and are instrumental to the efficiency and safety of the vehicle. This Differential Cover comes in steel, aluminum, and cast iron but consumers have options on its finish, Some of these are chrome or powder coated that gives owners the luxury of having their car as they wanted while still serving its function. The aspect of the Differential Cover is in line with the shifting styles as well as engineering developments that have characterized the Sable for the five generations of the car since it was first made in 1986. Mercury sable being a mid size sedan that in its later models shifted to front wheel drive the car has always being associated with plenty of gadgets that included aerodynamic composite headlights. The Differential Cover is noteworthy in the automotive market, not only for its reliability but also for the importance of its functioning to increase the performance and handling of the vehicle - and hence the safety of the driver and passengers - and thus it remains one more important innovation in the Mercury Sable model.

Mercury Sable Differential Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Differential Cover on Mercury Sable?
    A:
The first step to service or repair the differential housing cover is positioning the vehicle on a hoist and setting it to neutral gear position. Place the drain pan underneath the differential while removing its 10 cover bolts. Before using new silicone sealant clean both machined surfaces of the rear axle housing and the differential housing cover alongside ensuring proper coverage inside the rear axle to avoid contamination. Both differential housing surfaces and differential housing cover surfaces require cleaning before using new silicone sealant. When installing the differential housing cover you must do it within 15 minutes of silicone application so a fresh application of silicone sealant will be needed otherwise. The silicone sealant needs at least one hour to cure properly before lubricant can be added to the system. A continuous bead of clear silicone rubber must be applied before installing the differential housing cover with its 10 bolts tightened to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). Install the filler plug on the rear axle then add 1.15 L of rear axle lubricant to achieve a lubricant level 3-5 mm below the bottom of the filler hole before securely fastening the plug using 29 Nm torque.
