Mercury Villager Throttle Body Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on Mercury Villager?
A: Service and repair procedures for the throttle body should start by disconnecting the battery cable and draining part of the engine coolant. Sever the connections from electrical wires such as Throttle Position (TP) sensor and Idle Air Control (IAC) but also TP switch connectors and air cleaner outlet tube. Service or repair of the throttle body starts by removing accelerator and speed control cables from the throttle linkage followed by removing coolant hoses from the throttle body. You must remove the throttle body by removing its nuts then disposing the gasket. Position the throttle body correctly before securing it by torquing the nuts at 10 Nm (89 Lb-In) first and 20 Nm (15 Lb/Ft) second. Always use a new gasket. The next step includes attaching coolant hoses to the throttle body then reattaching accelerator and speed control cables to the throttle linkage. The restoration process includes connecting the electrical wires for TP sensor and IAC and TP switch. To finish the process reinstall the air cleaner outlet tube while filling the engine cooling system and reinstalling the battery ground cable.
