Service on the suction accumulator for HVAC requires the recovery of refrigerant first. Proceed with removing the air cleaner along with the radiator grille then maintain the specified installation order for components. A new suction accumulator requires replacement only when a failed A/C compressor allows chemical contamination to reach the accumulator or when the existing accumulator shows physical damage. You must replace all disconnected A/C components with new O-ring seals that should receive clean mineral oil lubrication for installation. Follow the removal procedure in reverse to install this component while filling the refrigerant system with the correct amount of cleaner PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) which meets Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B together with other equipment that meets Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B or equivalent. R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals must receive their lubrication from Refrigerant Compressor Oil F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) since it should not be used for A/C compressor lubrication purposes.

Refrigerant recovery must begin the process of servicing the suction accumulator in HVAC systems. Start by removing the air cleaner together with radiator grille followed by five pin-type retainers and air deflector. You should first remove the suction accumulator bracket nut before disconnecting the two A/C fitting nuts by torquing them to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) before reinstallation. The suction accumulator service requires two steps: removing the suction accumulator bracket bolt before taking out the suction accumulator. The reinstallation process follows the reverse of removal actions by using fresh O-ring seals which must be coated in clean mineral oil before installation. PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) with equivalent Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B (or equivalent about WSH-M1C231-B) should be used for A/C compressor lubrication and in combination with Refrigerant Compressor Oil F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) to lubricate the R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals. The last step involves evacuation followed by a leak-check then charging of the refrigerant system with the needed amount of fresh PAG oil. The replacement of suction accumulator translates to physical evidence that emerges from a bugged A/C compressor or destruction from a suction accumulator.

Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil or equivalent and install new O-ring seals that have been lubricated in clean PAG oil or equivalent.

A new suction accumulator is only necessary if there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the existing accumulator.
