Alternator

The first step to service or repair the alternator starts with disconnection of the battery. First step is to loosen the accessory drive belt tension then set the belt apart. Proceed to remove the components in the exact sequence indicated by the accompanying illustration and the table. You must expose the nut of the generator B+ cable by moving the cable boot out of the way. The installation process will be finished by performing the inverse of the removal steps.

The first step for alternator servicing and repair requires placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL position with an elevated position on a hoist. First disconnect the battery then store the accessory drive belt in position by counterclockwise turning the tensioner while pushing its spring clip toward the tensioner. Services on the generator start with releasing the wiring harness locator followed by generator electrical connector removal. Separate the generator B+ cable boot and use a proper tool to remove the B+ cable nut before reinstallation where correct torque setting should be 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The generator requires removal of its three securing bolts before installation when bolts need to be fastened to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque. To finish the installation reverse all steps of removal.

You should service the alternator on a vehicle which is in NEUTRAL position and attached to a hoist. The accessory drive belt tensioner requires a counterclockwise rotation while securing it with a spring clip to put the accessory drive belt aside. Detach both the wiring harness locator from the generator then disconnect the electrical generator connection. Before taking off the generator B+ cable nut the operator must set aside its boot then apply 8 Nm (71 lb-in) of torque to the cable nut upon reinstallation. To install the generator securely replace the three bolts with care because they need to be fastened to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque. Perform the installation by first reversing all steps in the reverse order.
