Battery Cable

The first step to service battery cables requires a vehicle in NEUTURAL gear position on a hoist. When servicing the battery cables start by disconnecting the battery terminal followed by removing its nut for setting aside the engine cover before reinstalling it with a tight force of 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Position the battery cable body ground terminal aside after unwinding its bolt and secure it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Take off the nut from the fenderwell harness locators before setting the battery junction box (BJB) terminal to the side with a torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). The generator B+ terminal must be secured with 8 Nm torque for base vehicles and 12 Nm for police interceptors after nut removal to position the terminal aside. Position the battery cable engine ground terminal by removing the generator bracket nut and fasten it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during installation. Unclip the starter terminal cover after taking away the battery cable harness locator from the valve cover stud bolt. The positive terminal of the starter solenoid needs to be positioned away by removing the nut before torquing it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) when reinstalling. Position the starter solenoid wire terminal aside by removing the nut and tighten it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) when reassembling the parts. To perform the installation complete the opposite procedures of removal starting with removing the battery cable harness last.

Start the vehicle service or repair of battery cables by putting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position on a hoist. The battery disconnection procedure requires removal of the engine cover nut then safe placement of the cover until it reaches 10 Nm (89 lb-in) torque during reinstallation. First remove the bolt to move the body ground terminal for installation. When positioning the bolt secure it at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Take out the two fenderwell harness locators before removing the connecting nut which enables placement of the battery junction box (BJB) terminal aside, tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) for installation. The generator B+ terminal needs a nut removal for placement aside before tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during installation. If possible tighten the engine ground terminal of the battery cable to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during installation after you remove the harness locator from the generator bracket and the nut. Unplug the battery cable harness locator from the valve cover stud bolt before you can take off the starter terminal cover. Installation of the starter solenoid requires first tightening the positive terminal nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) then removing this nut to place the solenoid wire terminal aside before tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) after reinstallation. Conclude by taking away the battery cable harness before following all removal procedure steps in reverse order during installation.

Remove the battery cable harness by releasing the three remaining battery cable harness locators, and to complete the process, reverse the removal procedure.
