Caliper Assembly, Driver Side

Starting brake caliper service requires disc brake caliper removal and fluid drainage followed by brake caliper piston forcing with low air pressure while using wood blocks for support. Use low air pressure on the fluid port of the caliper while inserting a block of wood between the caliper bridge and the caliper pistons to push out the pistons. The service begins with piston ejection using the block of wood and caliper pistons before you discard piston seals along with boots and bleed screw and cap. The operation of caliper bore honing should be avoided during installation because the market lacks calipers that require honed bores. First clean the caliper pistons and caliper for debris removal then inspect for any surface damage before replacing old components with new caliper pistons. Clean the caliper bores using Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA which satisfies the requirements of Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A or a similar approved product. Replace the entire disc brake caliper if its bores show evidence of corrosion or have excessive score marks. Apply new brass fixtures with High Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB which satisfies ESA-M6C25-A Ford specifications but use only fresh piston seals and dust boots during the procedure. Use caution when placing the piston seal with its boot to the piston because the seal should remain undamaged. Then set the piston into position correctly relative to the bore before applying gentle force. To complete the procedure reattach the disc brake caliper after installing a new bleed screw along with cap.

Inspect the brake system operation.

Clean High Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or an equivalent fluid meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A.

Disconnect the front brake hose by removing the front brake hose bolt and discarding the copper washers, then remove the brake caliper.

Raise and support the vehicle, then remove the wheel and tire assembly.
