The service process for the camshaft starts with removing the radiator assembly and all parts connected to the hydraulic lash adjusters and timing chain and camshaft synchronizer assembly and camshaft thrust plate bolts. Maintain safety while servicing the camshaft because the camshaft must avoid landing on bearing surface or cylinder block during unfastening. Before installing new parts the camshaft demands application of clean engine oil on the camshaft itself as well as the camshaft bearings along with the camshaft position sensor drive gear. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate the camshaft thrust plate before its installation with the bolts. The camshaft end play measurement must be performed after adding clean engine oil through the distributor hole onto the camshaft drive gear when replacing a new camshaft. Running the engine at idle for five minutes precedes vehicle operation. A comprehensive application of engine oil on the camshaft synchronizer gear teeth must occur before proceeding to install components including the timing chain and hydraulic lash adjusters and radiator assembly. The final tasks involve grounding the battery cable followed by removing engine oil before adding clean engine oil through the distributor hole onto the camshaft drive gear and performing a cooling system fill and bleed operation.

Install the hydraulic lash adjusters and the radiator assembly.
