Catalytic Converter

Service operations for the catalytic converter start with removing heat shields then disconnecting the Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) from its position on the manifold. After raising the vehicle for support you must disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector through wire unclipping. The technician should start by disconnecting the flange connection and separating the hanger insulator then proceed to eliminate the TWC and flexible pipe assembly by untightening nuts and removing the nut and bolt. During installation position the TWC and flexible pipe assembly and next install the nut and bolt before tightening the bolts. First check the hanger insulators for wear then replace them when needed and apply Myrpol Lubricant D7AZ-19553-AA or equivalent per Ford specification ESE-M99B144-B. Then install the new gasket and nuts before loosely joining the flange assembly while supporting the vehicle in its lowered position. The usage of jointing compound must end before reaching the catalytic converter area followed by proper tightening of the nuts. Begin by reattaching the heat shield to the exhaust system. Then elevate the vehicle once more before securing the nuts while attaching the heated oxygen sensor electrical cable and securing the wiring in place before letting the vehicle drop to the ground.

Loosen the nuts, then remove the nut and bolt.
