Your service procedure for the Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) starts with disassembling the heat shield before removing the TWC from its manifold on vehicles using a 2.0L engine. Start the procedure by lifting up the vehicle before disconnecting the heated oxygen sensor electrical wiring through its unclipable connector. The hanger insulator must be separated before disconnecting the flange connection. The service specialist should begin by loosening both TWC nuts along with the bolt to successfully remove the TWC assembly and flexible pipe from the system. When installing the hanger insulators select only the specifications designed for your application because they have a special composition. Place the TWC with flexible pipe assembly correctly before installing the bolt and nut and tightening the bolts. Prolonged inspection should be conducted to check the hanger insulators for any sign of damage or fatigue before replacing them if needed. The exhaust hanger insulators need MERPOL Lubricant D7AZ-19553-AA or equivalent product approved for Ford specification ESE-M99B144-B. After installing a new gasket and nuts, the flange joint should be loosely connected before lowering the vehicle. Apply jointing compound beyond the catalytic converter area but avoid this area itself for installation. Tighten the nuts properly after application. After installing the heat shield, repeat the procedure of raising and supporting the vehicle followed by tightening all nuts before connecting the heated oxygen sensor wiring and clipping the wiring in place before lowering the vehicle.
