Begin the catalytic converter service by depowering any fire suppression system if it exists to maintain safety. Place the vehicle onto the hoist in NEUTRAL position. It is necessary to switch off power to an air suspension system before any procedure involving hoisting or jacking or towing to stop unexpected air spring inflation or deflation events. The service process requires removing both electrical connectors from the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) and catalyst monitor sensor (CMS). The installer should discard the two catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts before installation while tightening them to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) at the end. Begin by removing the catalytic converter-to-outlet pipe bolts and flag nuts before taking out the damper then discarding all three items including the bolts and flag nuts. During new catalytic converter installation workers must apply anti-seize lubricant to sensor threads followed by removal of H02S and CMS before tightening the sensors to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). All joint surfaces between the exhaust manifold and outlet pipe and catalytic converter need clean-up before new exhaust system fasteners and gaskets are installed. Wet run all fasteners at first on the front of the vehicle before any tightening occurs. The correct placement of the converter depends on alternately fastening the exhaust manifold nuts to catalytic converter while tightening the bolts connecting the converter to the inlet pipe according to manufacturer specifications.
