Service and repair of the Clock Spring assembly should begin by disabling the SRS while also checking the SRS operates correctly before restoring the vehicle to the customer. The task starts with putting road wheels at zero degree then lowering the steering wheel and securing the tilt handle. The servicing process requires removal of the driver air bag module with the LH A-pillar lower trim panel and the two screws which secure the steering column opening cover. The technicians should disconnect the headlamp and courtesy light switch electrical connectors. The process requires eliminating the steering column shroud screws starting with those on the lower part while also taking away the upper and lower steering components and finally separating the steering wheel. When keeping the Clock Spring you should utilize tape to secure the center rotor to the outer housing to stop movement. Tilt the handle assembly before you move the spring-loaded tilt steering column while also removing the Clock Spring electric connectors then you can take out the four screws that secure the Clock Spring. Vehicles with recentering requirements should have straight road wheels and immobilized outer housing before counterclockwise rotation until resistance appears followed by clockwise movement of three turns while observing the ribbon wire's location near 2 o'clock and rotor arrow alignment with housing arrow. Place the Clock Spring into position and fasten it with four screws while you reconnect electrical wires and position the lower steering column shroud and handle the tilt. The installation process includes reinstallation of the upper steering column shroud together with three lower shroud screws followed by a connector replacement between the headlamp and courtesy light switches then steering column opening cover screwing and installation of LH A-pillar lower trim panel. Deliver the tape from the Clock Spring installation by removing it but never allow any rotation of the component. New Clock Springs should not be rotated after removing the sealing key unless the centralizing procedure needs repeating. And finally, add the steering wheel and the driver air bag module before executing the SRS repower procedure.

Eye protection should be worn before starting the SRS depowering process. Approach the road wheels directly forward and position the steering wheel in a downward angle before securing the tilt mechanism. Start by removing the driver air bag module together with the LH A-pillar lower trim panel and the steering column opening cover after disconnecting headlamp and courtesy light switches electrical connectors. The first order of service requires unscrewing the three lower steering column shroud screws while subsequent steps involve removing the upper and lower steering column shrouds and then disconnecting the steering wheel. During reuse of the Clock Spring wrap the center rotor to the outer housing with tape to stop rotation. Press the tilting mechanism button before adjusting the spring-loaded features of the steering column assembly. First unplugging the Clock Spring electrical connector before removing the four screws which allows for the removal of the Clock Spring. The room for Clock Spring recentering starts with keeping the outer housing unmoved and performing counterclockwise rotor rotation until resistance appears before moving to clockwise movement of three turns where visibility of the ribbon wire occurs at the 2 o'clock position while the rotor arrow matches the housing arrow. Use the four screws to fasten the install the Clock Spring then connect the electrical connector. You should position the lower steering column shroud in an upward direction while lowering the steering column and locking the tilt handle. Reinstall the upper shroud using the three lower screws while regaining electrical connection to the headlamp and courtesy light switches before putting back the steering column opening cover and two screws and then the LH A-pillar lower trim panel. When using an existing Clock Spring remove the tape without permitting its twist motion. Avoid rotating the new Clock Spring between removing the sealing key and installing the steering wheel since unattended rotation requires re-executing the centralizing procedure. Reinstall all components by starting with the driver air bag module followed by the steering wheel and finish by reestablishing SRS power.

Carefully release the tilt handle while repositioning the spring-loaded tilt steering column and position the lower steering column shroud downward.

Always wear safety glasses to minimize injury risk from accidental air bag deployment, and avoid using memory saver devices.

Remove the driver air bag module and the steering wheel, then the two screws from the lower and upper steering column shrouds.
