A first step for servicing the A/C accumulator entails performing the refrigerant recovery and discharge process. The service begins by raising the vehicle then eliminating the screws from the LH sight shield before using the screws to separate the air deflector. Lower the vehicle after disconnecting the peanut fitting and removing its nut. Disconnect the air outlet tube from the A/C accumulator and then separate the nut and bolt. Set the A/C accumulator to the side of the radiator shroud for disconnection from the manifold. Reinstallation requires the application of PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil YN-12-C or F7AZ-19589-DA or any equivalent that fulfills Ford WSH-M1C231-B specification to the O-ring seal before performing the opposite removal steps.

You must start A/C accumulator service by recovering the refrigerant before taking off the air cleaner outlet tube. First, remove the components in their designated sequence. A new A/C accumulator becomes needed only when physical contamination appears from compressor failure or A/C accumulator damage exists. The same A/C fitting requires new O-ring seals after disconnection but before reconnection, which must be lubricated with PAG oil. The installation requires reversing the removal process while using the correct amount of clean PAG oil for lubricating the refrigerant system. The refrigerant system requires evacuation, after which a leak test and a charging procedure should be completed to finish the repair process.

Remove the nut to disconnect the manifold from the receiver drier.

Take off the receiver drier fitting nut and discard the O-ring seals.

Remove the screws to take off the LH sight shield and the air deflector.

Begin by recovering the refrigerant.

Evacuate, leak test, and charge the refrigerant system.

A new unit is only necessary if there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the receiver drier.

Raise the vehicle and remove the screws to take off the LH sight shield.
