Service and repair operations on the rear driveshaft of a 4x2 vehicle must commence by elevating and securing it using NEUTRAL gear. The first step should include making index marks on the driveshaft flange and rear axle pinion flange and between the driveshaft and extension housing. Simple service and repair of the rear driveshaft requires you to remove the four securing bolts. Tight fitting between driveshaft flange and rear axle pinion flange pilot requires extra care because hammering on driveshaft components should be avoided. A proper tool should be used for prying only at the designated area to unfasten the driveshaft flange from the pinion flange. After disconnection lower the driveshaft off the output shaft and slide it away before plugging the extension housing to avoid fluid drainage. The original retaining bolts require a protective covering of Threadlock and Sealer EOAZ-19554-AA which fulfills Ford specification WSK-M2G351-A5 or equivalent. Stand the driveshaft flange perpendicular to the pinion flange before tightening its bolts uniformly across a cross pattern configuration. The installation process ends by executing the steps of removal in reverse sequence.

Tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern.

Remove and discard the four rear axle flange bolts.

Remove and discard the four rear axle flange bolts.

Reverse the removal procedure.

Use new bolts tightened to 112 Nm (83 lb-ft).

Ensure the vehicle is in NEUTRAL and then raise and support it securely.

Avoid hammering on the driveshaft or its components as it fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange pilot.
