It is essential for proper braking that both rear brake shoes and linings receive new installation as a pair during an axle replacement. The first step should include removing the wheel and tire while confirming the parking brake control is in full release position. Brake drum distortion should be avoided by using both brake drum pullers and torches. Tap the center of the drum at its wheel studs to extract a drum that has rusted onto the axle shaft pilot diameter. Pull the brake drum off from the axle shaft after discarding the spring nut. The brake shoe adjusting screw nut requires loosening while moving the brake shoe adjusting lever from the brake adjuster screw and asking for assistance through the Brake Adjustment Tool to complete the nut's release. The Brake Drum Micrometer should be used to check the drum's inside diameter before replacing it with a new one when its dimensions surpass the drum specification. The installation process requires you to execute the backwards version of the removal method.
